Come join the crew aboard the Tammy Jane for a 2-hour educational and picturesque low-country experience as we take you out Shrimping! We invite you to learn about our healthy salt marsh environment, and introduce you to some of the sea creatures we'll safely pull up in our nets (in addition to shrimp!).

We will explore how various ecosystems intertwine to create the rich food web that provides food for our tables.

This is a unique opportunity for guests of all ages! If we do catch shrimp aboard an expedition the crew will package some up for guests to take home.

What To Expect

Vagabond Cruise

Aboard this two hour excursion you will explore how various ecosystems intertwine to create the rich food web that provides food for our tables.This is a unique opportunity for guests of all ages! If we do catch shrimp aboard an expedition the crew will package some up for guests to take home. All excursions depart from Harbour Town Yacht Basin within the Sea Pines Resort. There is a $9.00 per vehicle entry fee for the Sea Pines Resort that must be paid in cash. This gate pass is valid for the entire day, so make the most out of the Sea Pines Resort. Check-in for your Shrimp Trawl aboard the Tammy Jane will be at the Vagabond Cruise reservation office which is located just to the right of the Harbour Town Lighthouse. A great trip. The knowledgeable and friendly guides kept three generations of people engaged and learning about shrimping and so much more. They didn’t catch a lot of shrimp, but they did catch and show a variety of inhabitants in the water around Hilton Head. And we saw more dolphins close up than we saw on the dolphin cruise.

Kids really enjoyed seeing everything pulled in on the catch. Crew very knowledgeable and fun. Don’t go with expectations of taking home a lot of shrimp. We had enough for everyone to sample after we go home and cooked it. We did have a good catch, just other groups on the boat said they weren’t together so they each got more. Not the crew’s fault.

REALLY good - the first 45 minutes spent with the nets out may not be overly exciting, but that's part of the process - they could probably give some more information about the industry, history of shrimping in the area etc. . . but starting with bringing in the net, to sorting out the catch (all kinds of crabs, fish, squid etc.) and popping the heads off the shrimp - all was VERY interesting and my 11 year old daughter loved every minute of it (as it appeared, did the other kids, ages about 5 to 15 on the ship). The fact that you get to take some of the catch home is icing on the cake! - I guess if you or your kids aren't into sea life or haven't ever cleaned a fish or something before, this may not be for them. But if they're into unique experiences I think this would qualify as a great cultural experience. Maybe we were fortunate in the amount of shrimp that were caught . . .
