Historic Savannah Walking Tour

Overview
Our Savannah History Walk is an excellent way to orient yourself with Savannah’s past. We start in Savannah’s oldest square and outline the founding of both Savannah and Georgia. From there we head south, square by square, discussing Savannah’s booms and busts.

Some topics covered include the Oglethorpe Plan for squares, the father vs. son atmosphere of Revolutionary Savannah, the city’s most famous duel, Presidential visits, the Civil War era and Federal occupation, the experience of Antebellum and post-War African Americans, and the city’s churches and historic homes. We’ll take our talk right up to the tourist boom brought on by a certain book, the growing Port of Savannah, and where the city goes from here. You’ll also hear about dozens of men and women who made this place what it is.

This is Savannah's most in-depth and comprehensive historic tour. Whether a tourist or longtime resident, you’ll walk away with a greater appreciation of all things Savannah.

Rodney, a history professor, was an excellent guide, knowledgeable, engaging, and fun! We learned much about Savannah's history and also interesting current day facts. His passion for civil war history was evident in his presentation. I would highly recommend this tour.

Guide had quite the knowledge about Savannah history. He is a history professor so that maskes sense. Saw multiple squares and monuments. Discussed a bit about architecture. Enjoyed the tour. Only con for me was that I was hoping for more actual walking.

This was the highlight of our trip to Savannah. I do local tours in pretty much every city I travel to - they are either good or GREAT - and it all depends on the tour guide. Our tour guide was truly phenomenal. We learned so much history - got to see amazing parts of Savannah and truly enjoyed ourselves. I was traveling with my twin teen sons and they enjoyed the tour as well. Truly fabulous! The two hours were chock full of history and our tour guide (a college history professor!) was amazing. I highly recommend this tour company is you want the FACTS presented in an amazing an entertaining way. I am quite familiar with Savannah and I have traveled there many times and I have lived in the South for over 25 years - and still, this truly was the highlight of our trip.
