Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

When out on our whale watching tour you will be in Icy Strait (body of water) You will get to see humpback whales (guaranteed!), sea lion, sea otter, and bald eagles. You even have the chance of seeing brown bear along the beaches, orcas and puffins flying by.

We waited to the last minute to book a whale watching tour. When the tour company was full they suggested trying Hoonah Whale Tours. We are so happy they did, the tour was excellent. The tour is operated by Jordan and his wife, Maraiya, who are both very nice people. Maraiya was waiting for us at the pier as promised and explained the town during our 5 minute ride to the boat. The boat was very clean and well maintained. Jordan was a very safe Captain; for example, he requested that I came inside when he was going to move the boat at a higher rate of speed. Jordan was very patient when it came to looking for the whales and didn't just go everywhere looking for the whales. The whale watching was excellent. We saw numerous whales, porpoises and sea lions and were able to get many very good pictures. I would highly recommend and use Hoonah Whale Tours again.

We were a group of six on this tour and had a fabulous time. This is a new company and we were very pleased with the personal service. We were on a small boat with Joardan as our captain. He is a native of the area and took us to several good viewing areas as well as getting close to sea lions and otters. There were two huge whale watching boats but we had the benefit of a small boat and private captain. We had inside and outside areas on the boat and were provided hot coffee, sodas, bottled water and fresh blueberry muffins. You won't get that on a big boat!

We had a great time with Captain Jordan being an excellent guide. Jordan was patient in locating many excellent whales for viewing which included some magnificent photo opportunities. At one point we must have had 10-12 whales in close proximity (as close as you can legally get). The excitement was exhilarating as it lasted for almost one hour! Jordan also gave us a good overview of the local fishing culture and it's way if operating in the local waters. Jordans wife (Miriah) and business partner was also very attentive as she met us at the ship upon docking and took us directly to the boat. She even took us to find some bear photo opportunities after the tour!!! We had a very memorable day and enjoyed being on a smaller boat without the crowds of the bigger whale watching tour boats from the cruise. Thanks Jordan!
