What To Expect

Black Hills National Forest

Once the balloon is ready, you’ll gently take to the skies for an approximate 1-hour flight over the Black Hills National Forest. If you are new to ballooning, you’ll be surprised at the silence and serenity you’ll find high above the treetops. It’s truly magical. Upon landing, the ground crew will pack the balloon while you and your pilot celebrate the flight with complimentary champagne, light snacks and a story about the origin of hot air ballooning. Flights depart at sunrise and are weather dependent and always at the discretion of your experienced pilot.

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

We really enjoyed our adventure and the beautiful country as seen from the balloon. We were staying in Rapid City and it took about one hour to drive to the meeting spot at 5:15am. I would recommend that you stay in Custer or even the cute city of Hill. The team was very friendly and professional. On our particular day of flying we could not go high due to strong winds so we got to dance across the tree line. We saw a dear running through the trees and was able to shout a greeting to a neighbor enjoying his coffee as we floated by. Definitely book in advance, be on time at your meeting spot, and don’t be disappointed if they have to rebook due to the weather. The ride is not scary at all and the fire keeps you warm. Thanks for your review. Certain weather conditions require staying low to navigate to a preferred landing site. We're so glad you enjoyed the flight and saw local wildlife; it's such a beautiful place to fly.

We had hoped for a once in a lifetime experience and got it. Beautiful views of the black hills of South Dakota from above. An experienced and delightful pilot. Watch out for that landing, tricky but fun!

Hot Air Ballooning has been on the bucket list for some time, and for my first time all I can say is WOW!!! What an incredible experience! It was so surreal floating over the Black Hills! No words can describe how peaceful it truly is! Damien our pilot was fantastic and made every minute of the experience that much more enjoyable! Champagne toast, cheese and crackers and a bit of ballooning history after we landed! I would highly recommend experiencing this incredible journey! By far the best experience we had in the Black Hills!
