What To Expect

Black Hills National Forest

Once the balloon is ready, you’ll gently take to the skies for an approximate 1-hour flight over the Black Hills National Forest. If you are new to ballooning, you’ll be surprised at the silence and serenity you’ll find high above the treetops. It’s truly magical. Upon landing, the ground crew will pack the balloon while you and your pilot celebrate the flight with complimentary champagne, light snacks and a story about the origin of hot air ballooning. Flights depart at sunrise and are weather dependent and always at the discretion of your experienced pilot.

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

This was the first hot air balloon ride for my husband and myself. We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Damien and staff did an excellent job from start to finish. The balloon ride was quite different from what I thought it might be. I thought it would be cold and I would wind blown throughout the experience. It wasn't long after we lifted off that I was peeling off the layers. It was surprisingly warm and the winds were calm. It was quite peaceful. I would love to do this again.

Flying with Black Hills Balloons was the highlight of my 55th celebration, an adventure I'll never forget! The pilot and crew are amazing people who are kind, professional and fun. The group in my flight were blended together exceptionally well and the crew attended to every detail making the experience special for each person. If you've ever wanted to fly in a hot air balloon this is the place to go and the people to trust to make it happen. In the summer months, the meeting time is early, but worth it! I was the only one in the group alone and I never felt left out of the two families joining my flight. It is definitely a highlight in my life! The Black Hills are spectacular and the sensation of floating in the air is like no other!

I highly recommend Black Hills Balloons! Damien and the crew are friendly and professional. They make safety a priority, which was important to me. We had a booking on Wednesday, but after checking the wind and weather, Damien decided the ride would be too short. He offered to refund or rebook everyone. That impressed me. We returned on Friday and had an amazing ride over the Black Hills going approximately 18 miles. We saw a herd of about 50 elk in addition to the overall beauty of the area. I was a little concerned about the landing, but we touched down very gently. Afterwards we had mimosas and snacks with all the guests and crew. We received certificates as balloon riders, which was a nice touch. Be sure to ask for a t-shirt!
