We took the cruise of the Hudson river on the Rip Van Winkle tour boat. The boat is very clean and the staff is very nice to everyone. The tour we took was for two hours and we were able to see the Vanderbilt mansion, Mills mansion and some other notable landmarks. We would go back again it if we are in the area. The only issue is parking at the loading dock which is located at the riverfront and has limited parking. Otherwise a great way to spend a couple hours on a Sunday afternoon.

We planned our trip a week in advance. The weather report was warm and sunny. The day of our cruise was cold, and raining. There is an open area and a covered area underneath. The issue, they can't close the doors. The cold air blows from the stairway going up to the open air above, flowing out the doors below deck. This is a trip to take on a warm sunny day. A few pretty sites, back of some nice mansions. You do see, two very nice historic lighthouses. Take this trip when you can sit outside on the top deck.

The vessel, Rip Van Winkle, is very clean and the staff are attentive and friendly. The ramp from the pier to the boat takes you directly to the upper deck which is partly covered. There are about a dozen rows of parkbench seats under the roof and plenty of plastic stackable chairs and folding chairs that can be set wherever you wish. We didn't go downstairs but there is a snackbar and gift shop there as well as indoor seating and a lower open deck with plastic (movable) chairs. I'm guessing that the restrooms were down there too. The stairs have handrails but are steep. Seniors or those with mobility issues need to keep this in mind if they take this river cruise. The scenery is outstanding and includes birdseye views of several notable lighthouses and closeup views of the waterfront. Most intriguing to me was the view of the various Gilded Era estates. The narrator provided very interesting commentary along the way. The marina/dock area is not to be missed either. There are at least a dozen eateries within easy walking distance...many with outdoor seating. The Hudson Tour is a good value at $21 per person, however if you buy tickets on line ahead of time...instead of an online discount, you'll be stuck with a $5 service fee per order. It's avoidable though! Just get to the pier early. I highly recommend this cruise!
