With your guide leading the way, peruse the array of shops, many of Italian heritage. Wander past cheeses, chocolates, spices and olive oils that tempt your taste buds, and discover myriad produce stalls, as well as a kitchen store. Along the way, stop to talk to market vendors and hear fascinating tales about the development of South Philly over the decades. Your guide can help you find a bargain with special discounts. Continue on toward a variety of Mexican stores in an area where the boxer Rocky Balboa (famously played by Sylvester Stallone) ran through the streets on one of his training runs. Nearby, you’ll find a selection of Vietnamese, Cambodian and Chinese shops. Your 2-hour tour ends around noon — the perfect time to purchase a Philly cheesesteak for lunch!

Chuck is the best tour guide that we have had and he catered perfectly to this Italian chef husband and history/culture-loving wife. We learned more about Philadelphia than we could have from any guide book. From insights into the life of William Penn to the colorful Magic Gardens' artist Isaiah Zagar, Chuck weaved the history of Philadelphia into wonderful stories and allowed us to see exactly what he was talking about. We then walked down 9th Street going into bakeries, cheese shops, olive oil shops, butchers, tortilla shops, gelato shops, spice store, and a kitchen store learning about the history and getting little tastes of all the wonderful food. We then ended at the Cheesesteak Corner (between Geno's and Pat's) with more colorful history and insight into one of Philly's most famous food. Thank you Urban Adventures and Chuck for a wonderful morning exploring South Philly, and your lunch recommendation was spot on - those really were the best meatballs! We will be back to Philadelphia and will request Chuck for other tours.

We love, love, love the Italian Market. And Chuck! We've got a whole network of food-loving guides from here to Maryland down to New Orleans, so be sure to check those out as well, and thanks for your review!

We were in Philadelphia for college tours and stayed for an extra day for this tour. I'm glad we did. Having visited Italy last year, we had an opportunity to compare Philadelphia Italian Market with the real thing. I can say - it's pretty close. Little shops with cheese, meat or other specialties, people speaking Italian, meats and cheeses handing from the ceiling, even August heat - all looked and felt pretty authentic. Our guide Chuck knew a lot and showed us a lot - including things that one won't be able to see strolling these streets by him/herself with a book or a tablet. If you are in Philadelphia and have couple of hours to spend on it - you'd be glad you did. Strongly recommended.

Nina was a wonderful tour guide. She was very knowledgeable of her hometown and did a great job of sharing her love for her city. The tour went very smoothly. It was engaging and interesting. Nina was so much fun and she seemed to know all of the store owners. Everyone was super friendly.
