Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

Launched in 1943, the former aircraft carrier USS Intrepid fought in World War II, surviving five kamikaze attacks and one torpedo strike. The ship later served in the Cold War and the Vietnam War. Intrepid also served as a NASA recovery vessel in the 1960s. It was decommissioned in 1974, and today is berthed on the Hudson River as the centerpiece of the museum.

This was great for a ten-year-old, even if we are not so enthralled with the military. It is a well-done museum, with plenty of friendly, knowledgeable staff. Some notes: Most of the good stuff cost extra, like the $12 for the flight simulator and $8 for the g-force simulator. We loved them, but it makes for a very expensive trip, since it is not that cheap to get in! We were given some practice time for the flight simulator, but we still ended up literally upside down. We decided that was fun, if dizzying. It was cool to see the space shuttle and notable planes. The ship itself is interesting. A school's jazz band was playing for us. Enjoy!

Recently visited the intrepid sea air and space museaum with wife and two children. The visit was quite enjoyable and very informative. I met a number of volunteers who were ex service men aand i have to say they were very friendly and willing to part with interesting information and facts on both the aircraft carrier and the submarine. The space shuttle wasnt open the day we visited while the concorde is off limits only to private tours. I would highly recommend this museum to both young and old.
