Without a doubt the best excursion we booked on our recent Alaskan cruise. Our pilot, Star, was very knowledgeable, fun to visit with, and an outstanding pilot. Excellent value and an unforgettable experience - I would give more stars if possible.

There really are no words to describe how the natural beauty you will see from the air above the Juneau icefield. This was not the tour we booked--we were supposed to go dog sledding, but the camp closed early due to high temps. We were rather disappointed about that; however, this icefield is still truly amazing. I don't know if other companies do this, but to their credit, Coastal gives their pilots the freedom to select their landing site. We ended up on the Norris Glacier. There were three members in my travel party and (other than the pilot) we had the helo to ourselves. When we landed at Norris, it seemed like we were on our own planet. We couldn't see, hear, or otherwise detect any other people. The ice stretched as far as you could see. Our pilot/guide was very knowledgeable and walked us around a bit to point out some features of the glacier. The views would be spectacular either way, but having it all to ourselves was a really unique and memorable experience. A note if you have mobility concerns: my wife has knee troubles and I was a bit worried about her walking on ice. It was actually much better than the dog sledding on snow (which we did later in the day via a different company). They give you some spiked boot covers and the ice has texture (not like a frozen-over pond or puddle) so there is actually decent traction up there. The steps up into the helo are big, but moving around the glacier isn't bad at all.

The helicopter ride was fun. Our pilot was knowledgeable about the glaciers and the surrounding areas near Juneau. During the flight to the glacier he explained the area which made us appreciate more where we were heading. We were lucky as it was clear day and the views were breathtaking. Since it was a clear day, our pilot took us further up the glacier where we landed. It was awesome that we had the whole glacier to ourselves. There was no one else there. Walking on glacier felt like walking in a freezer. As soon as few clouds came the temperature dropped and it got cold. Wear layers and have a warm hat and gloves with you in case you need them. The tour was a great experience and worth the price. The pick and drop from the main town was convenient. The tour started on time and was well organized. Overall an enjoyable and memorable experience.
