Kawaihae Whale Watch - Guaranteed

Overview
Every winter, thousands of humpback whales travel to the warm, shallow waters of Hawai‘i to mate, give birth, and raise their young. Learn the true scale of humpback whales through an intimate encounter on a small-group whale watch, where every seat is a front seat. Get off the beaten path and sail past sheer cliff walls of the windward Kohala shoreline as you discover breathtaking vistas of both Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Discover whales and the perfect perspective close to the water to allow for a once-in-a-lifetime viewing. Ocean stewardship is deeply embedded in Native Hawaiian culture. Humpback whales, or koholā, are an important part of history, legends, and connection to the sea.

Great views of the whales. Even a few dolphins too. Friendly, knowledgeable, and hospitable captain and crew.

Late Winter and early Spring is the season for Humpback Whales in Hawaii waters as a female gives birth and has the calf swimming close by and gaining strength for the long haul north toAlaska. We joined a whale watch from Kawaihae Harbor. The ocean off the north end of Hawaii Island has more whales than anywhere else close to the island. The boat crew of two were excellent: they looked after us tourists and were respectful of the whales keeping a sensible distance. I managed photos of females and calves coming to the surface and blowing. We didn't see any breaches - when males jump right out of the water. I got a little queasy as the boat is quite small and rolls and bumps a lot - I should have taken a sea sickness tablet !

Great tour with great hosts. We saw too many humpback whales to count, many baby whales too. Laid back and casual.
