What To Expect
1
Kenai Fjords National Park
In Kenai Fjords National Park, over half of the landmass is covered by the enormous Harding Icefield, a thousand-foot block of ice that dates back to the last Ice Age. The Harding spills out in all directions in the form of glaciers. Some stretch northwest into rugged hills of the Kenai Peninsula. Others—five of them, to be exact—reach as far as the sea along the craggy coast of the Gulf of Alaska.
2
Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge
Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of 2,400 islands, headlands, rocks, islets, spires and reefs and is known for its abundance of seabirds.

I went on the National Park tour with my sister and her family from California. It was their first time to Alaska. I live in Anchorage but it has been many years since I went out on a wildlife and glacier cruise on Resurrection Bay. All of my expectations were surpassed. Captain Sherry Cruse was very knowledgeable, and gracious. Her many years of experience showed when looking for wildlife. We saw humpbacks, orcas, seals, sea lions, porpoises, puffins, otters, bald eagles, and glaciers!! It was a majestic and exhilarating day in the pristine world of Kenai Fjords. I would emphatically recommend Captain Sherry Cruse and her crew. They took such good care of us. The boat was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. We had plenty of room to move around and there was ample room to take pictures from various levels on the boat. The food and service was really good too. Captain Sherry gave us a top notch guided tour of the Kenai Fjords. We were blown away with the majesty and beauty we saw. It was truly a magical day. This tour was THE highlight of my sister's trip to Alaska.

We booked this excursion on the day we disembarked our Norwegian cruise. The shuttle picked us up at port and they stored our luggage for free. We went on an absolutely beautiful day! I got amazing pictures the whole time and we really enjoyed the different scenery. We saw: otters, sea lions, seals, puffins, 2 humpback whales, gulls and an eagle. Lunch was actually pretty good - Caesar wrap, chips, granola bar, and fresh baked cookies. The staff was very friendly and helped take pictures and answered questions. The glacier was beautiful and we were able to see it much closer than any of the glaciers we saw on the cruise (for obvious reasons). The only thing I wish was different were more whales! We only spent 10-15 mins at the first sighting and had to keep moving to the glacier. However, going between locations it was super foggy so there were no whale sightings from that point on. Pro tip: it may sound fun to sit outside, especially when it’s an especially warm day but do yourself a favor and sit inside. You can easily walk outside anytime you want, but then have the chance to go inside when the boat is moving and it gets cold outside.

My family, parents and I went on this trip today and it was AMAZING!!!! Our guide, Sherry, on the Coastal Explorer, knew everything and took us to great sites to see all the animals we could. Her commentary taught us so much and helped us understand what we were looking at. We saw humpback whales, sea otters, Rachel’s, puffins and more! And the glacier......WOW!!! What an amazing sight! I HIGHLY recommend this cruise!!! Pack rain pants and jacket in case of not so great weather, but even in rain it’s wonderful.
