Ketchikan Mountain Lake Trek to Avalanche Chute

Overview
Come join us on a stunning 4-mile roundtrip hike in a small group of up to no more than 7 guests! This tour is led by owner and operator, Tongass Teague. Enjoy connecting with him, each other, and the wilderness of Southeast Alaska.

Hike an improved gravel trail alongside a forested lake below a mountain. Plenty of spots for picture taking. From there, the second mile’s more natural tread is mixed with gravel, large rocks, and roots as you ascend through an old-growth rainforest displaying large specimens of Sitka spruce.

Learn about some of our flora and fauna and hear about our complicated logging history and what it means for our future. Learn how to protect our endangered old-growth forests!

At 1100 feet of elevation, arrive at the bottom of an avalanche chute (devoid of snow in the summer), our destination. Be one of only two tours a day allowed on this cherished trail.

I am so grateful that we found this excursion and booked it! It was the best of our entire vacation. We could have probably found a hike and gone on our own- but would have missed out on the knowledge that Teague was able to share. He just made it so easy, he picked us up, took us to the trail, had hiking poles, tea and water. He was able to evaluate how each hiker was doing and adjusted as needed. He brought everyone into the conversation and provided such great knowledge of the area. If we come back to the area- Teague will be the first person we call!

Teague is the best!!! Got to enjoy the temperate rainforests of Ketchikan as we hiked up to an Avalanche Chute. Teague was personal, funny, a wealth of knowledge on the local flora and fauna, and made our hike a great experience. Highly recommend!!!

Our guide was amazing; even had some hot Peppermint Tea at the top of the Mtn for us. The eco system in the forest was impressive
