What To Expect
1
Kailua Pier
The central meeting place in downtown Kona, where missionaries arrived bringing western religion to the islands.
2
Ahuena Heiau
A former sacrificial heiau (luakini) dedicated to the god Ku where human sacrifice was performed, then later rededicated by King Kamehameha to the god Lono as a temple of peace.
3
Kamakahonu Beach
This is the location where King Kamehameha I transitioned into the next life, and also the site of ancient human sacrifice.
4
Hulihe'e Palace
Will the ghostly "lady in white" of the palace show herself again? Was it Pele, or Princess Kaiulani? We've witnessed her on tour once before...and then she disappeared!
5
Mokuaikaua Church
The lava rock cornerstones of Hawaii's very first Christian church were formerly part of an ancient Hawaiian temple, built hundreds of years in the past. This newly introduced religion eventually led to events that are considered Hawaii's civil war and the end of the ancient Kapu system.
6
Kona Inn Shopping Village
Built on ancients grounds, the Kona Inn was responsible for ushering in the era of tourism in Kona. The site was formerly home to King Kamehameha II and is known as "papa'ula" or "red flats" as there may have been human sacrifice here as well. End the tour with a cleansing sage smudge at the new Big Island Ghost Tours booth.

Tutu was an absolute sweetheart with many stories, but this tour was overpriced for what we got. They did give us a copy of the owner's ghost story book, but I would have been happier paying less and not getting the book. They need to look into giving group discounts and/or lowering the price overall.

The tour was on a noisy street, couldn’t hear the guide most of the time, no voice amplification. Not much substance, just folklore. Tour was less than an hour.

Zach was a great tour guide and let us handle some of the equipment he'd brought with him! Rich history and stories both were shared with our group as we walked down some of downtown Kona at night. Really neat photos shared from previous tours during and afterwards we were given a book of collected ghost-stories on the island!
