Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Tours
Discover the spectacular La Plata Canyon (20 minutes West of Durango) and its beautiful U formation created by glaciers on one of our Colorado jeep tours. Several small waterfalls and cascading rivers follow the rugged jeep trails in the springtime along with lots of wildlife such as marmots, mule deer, elk herds, juncos, kingfishers, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks and bald eagles. On our guided jeep tours you will see numerous wildflowers, high-alpine meadows, and avalanche gullies. Following the La Plata River (meaning “Silver” in Spanish) to La Plata City, an old mining town established in 1875, you’ll discover the remnants of old mining claims. These include a tall intact chimney left from the crew quarters, the framework of old cabins, and tailing piles from actual mining areas. Then, you’ll continue to the peak of Kennebec Pass at 12,000 feet above sea level (also above tree-line).

We did a morning jeep tour with Daniel as our guide. The scenery was absolutely beautiful but it was Daniel that made the tour, going out of his way to personalize things based on our groups interests. We saw many waterfalls, old mines and equipment, Daniel taught us about the different plants and rocks in the area, even dug up some wild onions for us to try(it’s the little things sometimes). I have to say though, Daniel went above and beyond when my husband realized he had lost something out of the jeep earlier in the tour and Daniel was able to retrieve the item , which was certainly not an easy task but was very appreciated.

What a fun experience!! Daniel was a wonderful guide. He was personable and enthusiastic and it was fun to learn about edible plants and mining history from him during the tour. He definitely made it an enjoyable and fun day. The jeep was comfortable with plenty of grab bars and padded seats. We took the morning tour and while we didnt see any big wildlife, cthere were plenty of birds, chipmonks, and marmots. Overrall a great value!

We had a great time as a family (kids ages 10 & 13) on the Jeep Tour. Our guide, Tosh, was extremely knowledgeable about the geography, history and plant life! There were several stops along the way to take pictures. It can get a bit dusty, so bring sunglasses to protect your eyes. Dress in layers, because it’s cooler up in the mountains. Tosh supplied blankets during the ride and was very attentive to everyone’s needs!
