Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Tours
Discover the spectacular La Plata Canyon (20 minutes West of Durango) and its beautiful U formation created by glaciers on one of our Colorado jeep tours. Several small waterfalls and cascading rivers follow the rugged jeep trails in the springtime along with lots of wildlife such as marmots, mule deer, elk herds, juncos, kingfishers, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks and bald eagles. On our guided jeep tours you will see numerous wildflowers, high-alpine meadows, and avalanche gullies. Following the La Plata River (meaning “Silver” in Spanish) to La Plata City, an old mining town established in 1875, you’ll discover the remnants of old mining claims. These include a tall intact chimney left from the crew quarters, the framework of old cabins, and tailing piles from actual mining areas. Then, you’ll continue to the peak of Kennebec Pass at 12,000 feet above sea level (also above tree-line).

Great experience from check-in to the half-day Jeep ride. It’s actually in a raised passenger area in the bed of a pickup, but enables you to have a better viewing perspective. We saw numerous waterfalls, a few old mining shacks, and Miles, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the plants, rock formations, and mining history of the area. We had several stops along the way to take photos and explore a bit. Our final stop was at a great scenic, flower-filled meadow at 11,000 ft. We saw marmots, a fox, and some chipmunks. It was a fun trip that took us to areas that our car would not have managed.

Jared was a wonderful guide. He was friendly, informative, and wanted everyone to have a good time. He even picked flowers for all the ladies :) The view of the La Plata Canyon was spectacular.

The ride and roads are rough—true off-roading, but the views are so worth it. Amazing! Plus, no worries about damage to your own vehicle. Emma was a great guide!
