Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Tours
Discover the spectacular La Plata Canyon (20 minutes West of Durango) and its beautiful U formation created by glaciers on one of our Colorado jeep tours. Several small waterfalls and cascading rivers follow the rugged jeep trails in the springtime along with lots of wildlife such as marmots, mule deer, elk herds, juncos, kingfishers, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks and bald eagles. On our guided jeep tours you will see numerous wildflowers, high-alpine meadows, and avalanche gullies. Following the La Plata River (meaning “Silver” in Spanish) to La Plata City, an old mining town established in 1875, you’ll discover the remnants of old mining claims. These include a tall intact chimney left from the crew quarters, the framework of old cabins, and tailing piles from actual mining areas. Then, you’ll continue to the peak of Kennebec Pass at 12,000 feet above sea level (also above tree-line).

I don’t typically write reviews, but this was such a great experience that I just had to take the time to sing the praises of Jay. He truly made our tour an unforgettable experience. We were immediately comfortable with him and it felt like we’d known him for years! We took the Jeep tour up into the La Plata canyon and Jay was a wealth of facts and awesomely “punny” jokes. We broke rocks and assayed them for gold and silver. My youngest daughter (Izzy grumpy bear) found a good one and gave Jay a chunk to keep for himself, which he loved. I feel like Jay was really able to read our family dynamic, which allowed us all to have fun and connect on a deeper level. With each other and with good old Mother Nature! We’ve done many tours in the past and this is easily the best we’ve done. If you’re planning a trip to Durango and you can appreciate all the glory nature has to offer, this tour should absolutely be on your must do list! Request Jay for an amazing and entertaining experience!

Five stars for Mild to Wild... good company... everything went as planned. Had a blanket for each person for the cold morning ride. Guide was informative. It was a pretty tame jeep ride though so don't expect anything crazy. Some parts are a little bumpy like a slow Indiana Jones ride... kids will like it. It's for any age... we had 15 months to 70 years old on the ride. There is some good scenery, too, but overall it was tough to justify $100 per person.

Thanks for the 5 star review on Mild to Wild. It is bumpy for sure on the rugged mining roads, but no extreme rock climbing for safety. We are sorry to hear you did not feel you got value for your money for your 4 hours tour. That is not what we want. Give us a call and ask for Sally.
