What To Expect

Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Tours

Discover the spectacular La Plata Canyon (20 minutes West of Durango) and its beautiful U formation created by glaciers on one of our Colorado jeep tours. Several small waterfalls and cascading rivers follow the rugged jeep trails in the springtime along with lots of wildlife such as marmots, mule deer, elk herds, juncos, kingfishers, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks and bald eagles. On our guided jeep tours you will see numerous wildflowers, high-alpine meadows, and avalanche gullies. Following the La Plata River (meaning “Silver” in Spanish) to La Plata City, an old mining town established in 1875, you’ll discover the remnants of old mining claims. These include a tall intact chimney left from the crew quarters, the framework of old cabins, and tailing piles from actual mining areas. Then, you’ll continue to the peak of Kennebec Pass at 12,000 feet above sea level (also above tree-line).

The scenery on the ride to the top was beautiful. The driver and guide, Lee, did a great job. Everyone bon the tour talked with each other and became friends by the end of the ride. The view of the surrounding peaks was magnificent when we got to the top of the ride. The summit was about 11,540 feet. We started about 6,450 feet above sea level. Also, a smart 4 year old boy named Max was a delight to have on board. We saw mule deer, marmots, free range cows and maybe a Black Bear.

Our favorite part of this tour was the knowledge of our awesome driver Tosh! He took us to see beautiful country and fed us wild berries. Also saw marmots, mule deer and beautiful waterfalls. Awesome backcoutry jeep tour!!

Tosh made our experience even more fun with pointing out plants that are edible and letting us taste the wild berries. He is a polite knowledgeable gentleman and the ride was awesome. We saw a lot of wildlife and beautiful scenery! Recommend this trip for all.
