Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Tours
Discover the spectacular La Plata Canyon (20 minutes West of Durango) and its beautiful U formation created by glaciers on one of our Colorado jeep tours. Several small waterfalls and cascading rivers follow the rugged jeep trails in the springtime along with lots of wildlife such as marmots, mule deer, elk herds, juncos, kingfishers, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks and bald eagles. On our guided jeep tours you will see numerous wildflowers, high-alpine meadows, and avalanche gullies. Following the La Plata River (meaning “Silver” in Spanish) to La Plata City, an old mining town established in 1875, you’ll discover the remnants of old mining claims. These include a tall intact chimney left from the crew quarters, the framework of old cabins, and tailing piles from actual mining areas. Then, you’ll continue to the peak of Kennebec Pass at 12,000 feet above sea level (also above tree-line).

We wanted an off road experience in the mountains. It was great fun with spectacular scenery along the way to the highest point of 11,000+ ft. Our guide John, was fun and knowledgeable. We were on the pm your with just 6 people including John and his wife. Totally recommend this to anyone who wants a guided off road experience. Jblord

Don and I had a great adventure that was the highlight of our vacation. Jay was our tour guide and was very personable and knowledgeable. We were introduced to two other couple that soon became our partners in a great adventure. Jay talked to us all like a group of friends and let us visualize the area in the founding days to the present. We talked climate change, mineral content of the rocks being mined, and the process of mining. We saw the ruins of towns and that originally there, back in the day. Our trip included a coach ride to Silverton, a Three hour tour by Jeep, a couple of hours hours for shopping and lunch, then the train ride back to Durango. Totally take the tour. You will not be sorry.

Miles was our guide. We were so happy as we had him for our Mesa Verde trip. Miles is a wonderful guide so much knowledge, Interesting stories and extremely CONSIDERATE. Our trip up to 11,000 plus feet was exciting and very bumpy and very cold. We had a nice light freezing rain when we arrived at the top. Miles provided warm blanks and rain gear. We stopped along the way up to enjoy raspberries on the vine. So much fun. To top off the wonderful day, we saw a large black bear in a field stopped and watched. This is the best trip with a wonderful company. DON'T BE SORRY, GO!
