What To Expect

Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Tours

Discover the spectacular La Plata Canyon (20 minutes West of Durango) and its beautiful U formation created by glaciers on one of our Colorado jeep tours. Several small waterfalls and cascading rivers follow the rugged jeep trails in the springtime along with lots of wildlife such as marmots, mule deer, elk herds, juncos, kingfishers, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks and bald eagles. On our guided jeep tours you will see numerous wildflowers, high-alpine meadows, and avalanche gullies. Following the La Plata River (meaning “Silver” in Spanish) to La Plata City, an old mining town established in 1875, you’ll discover the remnants of old mining claims. These include a tall intact chimney left from the crew quarters, the framework of old cabins, and tailing piles from actual mining areas. Then, you’ll continue to the peak of Kennebec Pass at 12,000 feet above sea level (also above tree-line).

Awesome Jeep tour through the mountain road in Durango . We had Jay as our guide and he was fantastic! Fun , informative and really made the trip special. He took very good care of all the passengers made sure we got in and out of the Jeep safely, new all our names and where we we were from and was just a great guy and guide! The views were AMAZING and just spectacular scenery! I would definitely recommend this tour.

I would give more than five stars if I could. My family and I went on the lower Animas rafting half-day trip as well as the Durango half-day jeep tour. The staff and guides are awesome - they all went above and beyond to accommodate us. The staff were insanely quick to respond to the many questions we had prior to booking, taking the time to explain, offer suggestions and even send additional information about the different activities around town. Our jeep your guide, Jay, was very welcoming, fun, energetic and filled with so much wonderful knowledge about everything to do with the town/canyon! He provided us with blankets, waters, scavenger hunts and consistently checked in with everyone regarding activities, etc. Our river kayaking trip was an adventure for sure, but our guides Wolfgang and Andrew were wonderful - very welcoming, patient, made us feel comfortable and helped us throughout. The Mild to Wild staff/guides made this such a fun trip and we can’t wait to go back!

Our guide, Shawn, took time to stop along the way and show us how to pan for gold, about the mines and trees. The view was great at the top but be prepared for the bumpy ride up there
