What To Expect

Emerald Bay State Park

The Ultimate Half Day Tour departs at 7:00 am, and focuses on the best of Tahoe’s South and West Shore areas. Our journey begins at a beautiful secluded Tahoe beach, shadowed by spectacular Mt.Tallac. Across the river is an Eagle sanctuary, and you will be able to view and photograph different species of local birds, and possibly even a bear. As the mountains and lakes beckon, our adventures continues to back country lakes and spectacular waterfalls. Above the falls, another high country lake awaits our arrival. Climbing 2,000 feet above Tahoe to a high country ridgeline, gives you amazing views. Continuing to one of the most photographed locations in North America, Emerald Bay. Tahoe Photo Tours will take you to special locations to avoid the crowds.

Sugar Pine State Park

Sugar Pine Point State Park contains one of the finest remaining natural areas on Lake Tahoe. With nearly two miles of lake frontage, the park has dense forests of pine, fir, aspen and juniper. Constructed in 1903, the property is one of the finest examples of a by-gone era of summer retreats found along the shores of Lake Tahoe. With crystal clear waters and up to 24 inch pine cones this is a must see location.

You will be lucky if you can get the owner Keith as your guide. He has lived here for 40 years and knows everything about the Tahoe area. I don’t usually give 5 star ratings unless someone goes beyond expected. The tour is unhurried. Taken to the best places for photography. Even if you are not a professional photographer (I am not), this is a great tour. Far away from the crowds. We were 4 on the tour and only 1 had a camera the rest of us were #iphone photographers. The half day tour is $179.

Jim took us to many prime spots in the south and east areas of Lake Tahoe. At each, he showed us the best views and suggested framings and exposures based on his vast professional photographic experience. He also shared a lot of interesting knowledge of the areas we visited, which was most welcome. Finally, he did a great job driving on some very difficult and narrow roads, taking special care about one of our party who was prone to motion sickness. It was a great day of photographs and we got some great shots. Further, Jim did several portraits of all of us along the way and emailed them to us, which was most welcome. Highly recommend this adventure!
