Note that you must book a parking spot on their website to do the self guided tour before arriving. The experience here was great- we went early in the morning and were the first people to arrive. Would highly suggest doing the same as it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves for the majority of the tour. They have a book that goes along with the guided trail and it took us about 1.5 hours to walk the grounds, take photos and learn about the different plant species. We even took a little break to try and find the local geckos on the plants (they weren't hard to find). We've only been to one other botanical gardens (on a different Hawaiian Island) but this one takes the cake, hands down. The grounds are well maintained and the views are unmatched. They provide water filling stations throughout the trail, so would suggest bringing a water bottle. They also offer bug spray at the front when you check in.... Use it! I would suggest having closed toe shoes / tennis shoes. 10/10 would recommend.

Really enjoyed this self-guided tour. It’s a semi- hike up a terraced mountainside. Not for those with walking limitations. Interesting descriptions of the plants. Well marked. They give you a handbook to take along as your guide. There are many spots along the tour with benches to sit on and rest and take in the amazing scenery. They have big water jugs to fill your bottles along the way too. Most of the plants weren’t in bloom when we visited in November, but the foliage was still amazing. I loved the whale path which overlooks the ocean. We didn’t spot any whales unfortunately but still really enjoyed the view. Also the mountains behind you are stunning. It’s a really up- close view. Need reservations. Get them online. We saw people being turned away even though it was empty.

Shout out to the staff of this precious place. Ms.West Texas and her young co worker could not have been more obliging and helpful!! It was Noah who first told us to visit, and we thank him!!! Walking sticks and water and water cups are provided for free!! Our entrance for a self guided tour was $20/ per head. Reservations are a MUST due to the limited parking. We were able to reserve just several hours in advance. I am the big gardener of the group tho my husband also gardens. The couple we were with do not garden. All liked the experience. My husband's comment, "Magnificent!!". There is some steep walking and all the tour is walking . We seniors made it! It took us almost 2 hours with lots of stops. Oh, there are a lot of places to stop and rest. I appreciated that. The brochure given out is an excellent reference and shows a respect for the land. We did this just this past Friday.
