Lovers Key Guided Eco Tour-Mangrove Estuary

Overview

This is a 2 hour and 15 minute tour with Lovers Key Adventures master naturalist guide, Stephen, who expertly guides our guests through the mangrove canopied estuary explaining the importance of the southwest Florida eco-system -the history of the area- from the Calusa Indians, Conquistadors, and Ponce De Leon..on. He finds wildlife and introduces our guests to the various birds, vegetation, dolphins, and manatee (if they’re around that day;) This is one of the unique experiences available in southwest Florida. No tour is ever the same there is no script and many guests return year after year to enjoy Stephen's expertise and the beauty of Lovers Key
Our guests also often take advantage of the beaches and hiking trails offered inside the state park. There are many photo opportunities available to capture the memories of this incredible experience within the natural surroundings of the untouched Florida landscape.

What To Expect

Lovers Key State Park

Lovers Key State Park offers 2 1/2 miles of beach coastline with incredible shelling. There are 5 miles of hiking and biking trails with wildlife sightings daily. The tours take place in the estuary with manatee and dolphin sightings (if they choose to show up) many or most days. 4 hour Kayak rentals are also available at your leisure-unguided with single and tandem kayaks and canoes as well as stand up paddle boards rented by the hour.

If you are planning on SUPing or kayaking in Lovers Key, be sure to book the guided tour with Stephen! So much more informative than merely paddling along the waterways by yourself. Stephen (and his adorable dog/sidekick Bowser) pointed out different species of wildlife and sea creatures. We saw crabs, jelly fish, manatees and even a seahorse! It was amazing! Stephen educated us on the rich history of the area. This is definitely a must while in Ft. Myers!

We took the estuary tour and had the pleasure to get Stephen and Bowser as our guides. And what a tour. 8 hours later, we're back in the apartment all excited about what turned out to be the best day we've had in Florida - and we're what you would call frequent Florida visitors. Forget Disney, forget Universal - THIS is what people should be doing on their vacation. Stephen took excellent care of us and our two daughters (6&8y) - and even though we're all total beginners and never been in a kayak before - he handled it like a champ. We felt safe, and got to see things we've never would have seen kayaking on our own such as a baby sea horse! Thanks Stephen for a wonderful day - if you ever want to go fishing in the area hit us up or want to come to Sweden - I'll return the favor and be your guide!

I have been living in Florida for almost 2 years now, originally from Ohio and have been on many guided tours in the SW Florida area. In my opinion, Stephen is by far the BEST one yet. He is so knowledgeable on the estuary and all the animals in the area. He takes his time to explain himself and you can really tell his compassion and appreciation to nature. I would recommend him to anyone as he is simply the best. Also, Bowser (his pet beagle) makes the trip so enjoyable as well! HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend. You won't be disappointed :)
