Lower Loop Van Tour from West Yellowstone: Grand Prismatic and Old Faithful

Overview
This Active Van Tour is a great way to see Yellowstone National Park beginning in the fun gateway town of West Yellowstone. The early morning part of the tour explores wildlife haunts in the famous Shadow Canyon of the Madison River. This area is home to bear and elk. Later we hike to an overlook of the famous Grand Prismatic Hot Springs. If you don't feel like walking we find a safe, scenic spot for you to wait for the group near the van. Next we explore the Old Faithful area, including some time at the famous Old Faithful Inn. We continue over the continental divide at Isa Lake and down to the West Thumb Geyser Basin on Yellowstone Lake for a view of some spectacular lakeside thermal pools. Continuing our drive along Yellowstone Lake we arrive in the Hayden Valley where big herds of bison roam. Finally, we arrive at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone to view the canyon and the amazing falls (one is almost 200 feet tall!). The day concludes back at West Yellowstone.

Our guide, Meg, was outstanding. She got us to all the key attractions without any hassles. She was very informative and lots of fun. Definitely recommend a tour and letting someone else drive.

So glad we did this tour! Meg was our tour guide and she was awesome! Sheā€™s relatively new to doing these tours but still had a wealth of knowledge about the park and all the great places to go and get beautiful photos. We got to see an entire herd of bison as well as a male elk! It was incredible. The snacks (apple, nuts, chips, nut bar etc) and lunch (turkey and Swiss sandwich and water/soda) were great. There were plenty of bathroom opportunities except I wish there was one a little sooner after lunch. The tour was really worth the $$ for us so we didnā€™t have to worry about driving, finding the spots to go, parking etc. We got to see so much and hit just about all the places in Yellowstone we wanted to see. Admittedly, it was a really long day for my 7 year old so if your kids are on the younger side, it might not be for them. He enjoyed himself (and the binoculars) but it was a TON of walking and he kept asking my husband to pick him up! And then he fell asleep on the ride back to west Yellowstone. The tour info recommends long pants and hiking boots but honestly they were not necessary for the areas we visited on this tour. All had nice boardwalks to walk on and the bug factor wasnā€™t really apparent when we were there.

Our guide Joel, a former park ranger was wonderful! He shared plenty of info, trivia and jokes but also spoke about the need to take of this wonderful natural resource. He knew the names of species of birds, plants and more. He was kind and patient with a very rambunctious group of children. Lunch was provided. We did not se an abundance of animals however we did get to see the bison and elk. Great tour!
