Lower Loop Van Tour from West Yellowstone: Grand Prismatic and Old Faithful

Overview
This Active Van Tour is a great way to see Yellowstone National Park beginning in the fun gateway town of West Yellowstone. The early morning part of the tour explores wildlife haunts in the famous Shadow Canyon of the Madison River. This area is home to bear and elk.

Later we hike to an overlook of the famous Grand Prismatic Hot Springs. If you don't feel like walking we find a safe, scenic spot for you to wait for the group near the van.

Next we explore the Old Faithful area, including some time at the famous Old Faithful Inn.

We continue over the continental divide at Isa Lake and down to the West Thumb Geyser Basin on Yellowstone Lake for a view of some spectacular lakeside thermal pools.

Continuing our drive along Yellowstone Lake we arrive in the Hayden Valley where big herds of bison roam.

Finally, we arrive at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone to view the canyon and the amazing falls (one is almost 200 feet tall!). The day concludes back at West Yellowstone.

How lucky were we to have tour guide, Dallas, for a surprise private tour! We had an amazing day and Dallas went above and beyond to show us so many unique sights and provided so much information on the history, the animals, and the vegetation in the park. Dallas has incredible insight and passion for nature. He truly made our day special!

Our guide Nakul was awesome. He was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the park and friendly. He took us to so many great sites. Grand Prismatic, Old Faithful, mud holes, hot springs, the lake and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone with that gorgeous waterfall. We saw elk, bald eagles, bison, and even a grizzly in the distance. It was a wonderful experience.

We actually did the lower and upper van tours on back to back days so we didn’t have to deal with cars, parking, etc. We had two different guides (Nakul and Austin) and both were great! Different personalities/styles but both created great experiences for our very different groups. We got to see all the main geysers/highlights, lots of wildlife on both tours (especially the upper tour)…big herds of bison, elk, some osprey, pronghorn sheep…didn’t see any bears this time but that didn’t impact our tour in any way… and the rain/hail during the stop at the lower falls made it all the more fun and some great memories/pics! Be prepared for quick weather changes! Rain jackets were definitely needed the first day, and even though it was summer we were glad we wore long sleeves/pants to protect from the bugs/flies - bring insect repellent! There was a bag of snacks waiting for us when we got on the van, and hot tea/coffee on the first stop. Hearty turkey sandwiches were provided for lunch, along with chips and an apple in the snack bag. They also had waters/drinks for everyone (we still brought our own refillable bottles). Plenty of bathroom breaks as well. Highly recommend Yellowstone Hiking Guides!
