Lower Loop Van Tour from West Yellowstone: Grand Prismatic and Old Faithful

Overview

This Active Van Tour is a great way to see Yellowstone National Park beginning in the fun gateway town of West Yellowstone. The early morning part of the tour explores wildlife haunts in the famous Shadow Canyon of the Madison River. This area is home to bear and elk. Later we hike to an overlook of the famous Grand Prismatic Hot Springs. If you don't feel like walking we find a safe, scenic spot for you to wait for the group near the van. Next we explore the Old Faithful area, including some time at the famous Old Faithful Inn. We continue over the continental divide at Isa Lake and down to the West Thumb Geyser Basin on Yellowstone Lake for a view of some spectacular lakeside thermal pools. Continuing our drive along Yellowstone Lake we arrive in the Hayden Valley where big herds of bison roam. Finally, we arrive at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone to view the canyon and the amazing falls (one is almost 200 feet tall!). The day concludes back at West Yellowstone.

Joel was amazing! His experience as a park ranger added so much depth to our experience. And, he knew to tell us not to look before we got right in front of the the lower falls at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. It was breathtaking when we finally looked up.

This was perfect for my mom and I. My mom is 72 so I wanted a tour she could do in a comfort of a van. Overall, the experience was great. The tour started with a pickup at the hotel. Emily was our tour guide and full of great energy! She was kind enough to ask if we had park passes, which of course I left mine in the car. She gave me a minute to grab it which saved me some money. The tour started with the hardest hike of the day (which isn’t hard) but for an older person it can be somewhat challenging with the elevation and incline since it was to a moderate peak location. Don’t let this deter you. If you’re in decent shape you can do this. I just note this for those who may a little extra time. After that, I got to really relax and enjoy the views and stops at great locations. Another concern of mine was if there would be enough bio breaks and that was never an issue. Emily knew all the places we could stop at so we were able to ride comfortably. If I’m ever in Yellowstone again, I would book a tour again with this company. We lucked out with a great tour group too. Thanks Emily for the great memories!
