What To Expect

Adventures on the Gorge

Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V. Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

A great 1/2 day ride on the rapids of the New River. Our guide, Dave, was incredible - knew the river and its history but even better he kept us safe and working hard to get through rapids up to Class IV. A family memory made!

What an awesome trip! Scenic river with great rapids. Our guide, Ben, was awesome. Our raft started calling him C-Note because the trip scored a 100. I hope to go back soon!

We booked a half day rafting trip to celebrate our 50th and 60th birthday with siblings and kids. Amazing trip and amazing day! Sully was our guide he did a great job explaining of what to expect while making sure we had a a lot of fun and felt really safe as he was very knowledgeable about rafting. Even had small medical issue he addressed with experience and made sure everyone was safe. From jumping off the rock to floating down the river along with the perfect weather, and the perfect guide are trip was GREAT! AOTG does a great job!
