Adventures on the Gorge
Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V.  Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

Without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The activities are amazingly fun. The guides are professional and helpful. The staff is very friendly. The catered meals are absolutely delicious. The accommodations are clean, comfortable and very nice. A very fun environment with plenty of family friendly activities. Jobo is an amazing river tour guide. Shelby and Clint are awesome zip line guides. Kate is the best group sales representative in the nation!

My wife and I went to AOTG, staying in our travel trailer at their updated RV sites. Plan was to raft Friday and Saturday - Friday trip was a ton of fun, even if it was pouring rain. Saturday - same trip but the Lower New River was a different ride with all the rain, can run this river every day and its never a dull ride. Upon return from rafting on Saturday we learned that Sunday was getting trips down the Lower Gauley River - so we changed plans to stay an extra day, BEST DECISION EVER!! Cannot say enough for AOTG - trip leaders and guides are some of the best in the world, one of the nicest outdoor adventure resorts in the country, with some amazing food at Smokys and Chettys.

My friend and I booked the lower NRG rafting adventure in June and I personally could not have been happier. The rafting itself took about 5-6 hours and was exhilarating. We also did some swimming rapids and as someone with a fairly high tolerance for adrenaline, this was actually pretty cool for my first time white water rafting. Tri was our River guide and he was super knowledgeable of the area. He gave history lessons, recommendations, and had a charming Appalachian sense of humor. Towards the last several miles of the excursion, you’re treated to a stunning view of the bridge from below which alone is worth it. I’d definitely return for more adventures.
