Adventures on the Gorge
Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V.  Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

Overall, everyone was nice and knew what they were doing except our raft guide(Louis). He was extremely rude to my family for no reason and did not attempt to make us comfortable knowing it was our first time. He purposely ignored us and talked to the other 4 people on the raft. He was not professional in a way that he clearly showed he was racist. Towards the end of the raft, my sister was feeling sick and he did not bother to ask how she was doing despite us trying to comfort her and straight up told her not to throw up in his raft instead of asking if she needed any help. He kept on for 5 minutes talking how it’s very inconsiderate and rude of her to throw up in the raft when she did not actually throw up and did not bother to ask at all if she was okay. If we tried to have a conversation with him, he would ignore us and talk to the other people on the raft. He was completely racist. All the other staff was amazing but he ruined the experience. I would suggest going to the place but recommended everyone to request anyone other than Louis to be your raft guide.

We went on the Lower New River Full Day rafting trip. What an amazing adventure. Kevin was our guide. I can not recommend this trip, with him as a guide. We will be going back to take a smaller boat with Kevin as out guide, just the 3 of us and him. Family fun. The whole trip was well organized, Covid safe, and just a blast to be a part of.

We did the Lower New River Full Day trip. It was our family of 5 with teenagers. Everyone enjoyed all aspects of the trip. Our guide was Scott Emery and he was first class. There were some great rapids but nothing the average family with teenagers should be concerned with. We were definitely in professional hands and comfortable the entire time. We have been fortunate to raft in several places. This was definitely our favorite. They also provide a picnic lunch and plenty of time swimming on the river. There was also a great jump rock which was a hit with everyone in our group of four boats.
