What To Expect
1
Adventures on the Gorge
Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V.  Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

We booked a whitewater rafting trip in January for our July visit. Adventures on the Gorge is well organized with excellent equipment and guides. They took safety quite seriously, with a thorough presentation before departing for the river. Our guide, Chris, was experienced and was also very entertaining. In addition, we want to mention "Miss Linda" who prepared the river side lunch for us. It was excellent and was served with Covid-19 safety in mind. Overall we had a fantastic trip that was well up to our expectations. Thanks again!

Awesome family experience! Whitewater rafting has been on my bucket list and this was the best way to check it off! My husband and teenage son loved it as much as me. Mike made our trip fun and memorable. He told us all kinds of things about the area and history, plus answered all our questions. Ray went over safety and what to expect. The lunch was delicious! The staff used all kinds of safety for Covid including offering hand sanitizer. We enjoyed sandwiches, pasta, bean and fruit salad, plus a brownie for dessert. There were times you could get in the water and float, which felt great on the 90 degree day! It really was a wonderful day spent outdoors as a family!

I was terrified to go rafting, as I have never been, but Mike made the experience perfect! He was so patient, informative, and really put my mind at ease! Our group had a blast with him. Great conversation too! The river was beautiful! So much to see, and so much history. I would recommend this experience to anyone!
