Adventures on the Gorge
Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V.  Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

First time white water rafter. Family of four. Our guide (Everett) was great, telling us history of the area while we coasted down the river, telling us all about the rapid we were about to enter, how to navigate, and what to do if something happens, like you fall out of the boat. Nobody fell out, and the rapids were awesome. I can't wait to do this again. They told me the Gauley river in the fall is a more of a ride, with more Class 5's and a big waterfall. That one is next for me!

Our family of four (kids ages 12 and 16) did the Upper New and Lower New River trips over 2 days. My wife and I went 25 years ago with Class VI - while the name has changed and the facilities have been upgraded, the staff is still the best around. Couldn't ask for better guides/trip leaders (Zack and Corbin) that we had for both days. On the Lower New our youngest son sustained a minor injury while running a rapid. Our guide Corbin quickly and expertly assessed the situation and stabilized his arm - certainly an added bonus to have someone with you on the river that not only knows the river but can render medical attention if needed.....
