What To Expect

Adventures on the Gorge
Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V.  Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

The entire adventure was extremely fun! Dave, our guide, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The river is beautiful and so are the grounds. Everything was exciting but you always felt your guide was in control. It was awesome to watch other people on the river as well. We can’t wait to go back again!

Recently took a 3-city vacation. Niagara falls, New York city then white water rafting. Without a doubt, white water rafting is the one the whole family says we must go back to again! Ben was an fantastic guide!

What a great place and fantastic guides. We made this a family trip and went from Michigan to West Virginia camping for the week with White Water Rafting being the goal. We were not disappointed. The water was warm, the rapids were exhilarating and the slower areas were great to take a swim or just enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. I would highly recommend Adventures on the Gorge. We took the 6 hour trip and had a fantastic lunch along the way, a couple of pit stops with cliff jumping available. This was a bucket list trip for me 74 year old Dad. He wanted to try it before he was too old and it was awesome!
