What To Expect

Adventures on the Gorge

Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V. Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

We loved our river rafting experience! "Easy" enough for our 7-year old but fun enough for the pre-teen. We had a fantastic day and look forward to doing it again soon. Barry, our guide, was phenomenal -- fun, lively, and very professional. Keep up the good work, all!

They have a longer trip but the 4hr has all the best of the New River jammed into about 2hrs of actual river time. Class 2-5 rapids spread out over 10 miles. Very exciting but also scenic in the calm patches between rapids. Our guide, Doug (aka Gong Show), made the trip safe and exciting. He knew the river and each rapid individually as well as a ton of the history (something I did not expect to get). We did the morning trip and had the river to ourselves. Water temp was in the 70's. All the gear provided was in good working order. I honestly have nothing negative to say about it. Worth the price and highly recommend. They sent a second guide in a kayak along with us as a shadow/support (Ziggy) who was also excellent and accommodating with getting some photos for us. FYI, they have a photography company at key rapids taking photos you can buy. They had great shots! Would do it again for certain!
