Adventures on the Gorge
Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V.  Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

For our honeymoon we decided to go on our first rafting trip and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience! The river was beautiful and the guides were fun (especially John!) AOG threw in tons of little extras to make things extra special, like a delicious picnic lunch in a picturesque knoll and free beer after the trip. If you’re thinking of rafting in the area go for it with AOG. My only regret from our trip was not staying at the resort. But we’ll be back!!!

Our rafting guide, John Long, was fantastic. He was interactive and fun but also instructed us in the boat properly to make sure he kept us safe. Rafting in May was also a success. The rapids and weather were great. Temperature was on chilly side but with renting a wet suit ($15) I was dry and warm the whole day. Can't wait to go back again!!

Went on the Lower New River whitewater trip for a guys trip. The first half was pretty tame with some rapid. The 2nd half was crazy! Class 4 and 5's with not a lot of downtime. I would highly recommend our raft guide Doug. He was awesome. Telling jokes and talking about the history of the area as we went through it. I've been on quite a few rafting trips around the US and this was definitely one of the best guides. Lunch was good, just sandwiches, pasta salad, fruit, and dessert. The water was around 8ft per their measurement, which meant that it was moving fast.
