Luau Kalamaku with Buffet Dinner & Show

Overview
Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed “in-the-round,” offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The 45-minute main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku “child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

We had a hard time deciding which Luau to attend, but eventually chose this one as we were intrigued by the "theatrical" element. It was entertaining, but perhaps a little too "stagey"--we have enjoyed luaus before that are on the beach and involve the audience in arts and crafts, etc (we thought we would do this here, but the "arts and crafts" part of it was people selling their arts and crafts--which were lovely, just not the same thing as doing it yourself (which we have experienced at other luaus). Good food, though and maitais!

We had a wonderful time at the luau and buffet dinner. The crafts were great quality and the vendors were laid back and helpful. The food and drinks were good enough. The real show stopper were the kind dancers that lead children and willing adults through a pre-show hula lesson and the incredible dance show that they put on after dinner. It is a very well produced piece of theater with amazing costumes and spectacular dances. We really enjoyed ourselves - a highlight of our trip. Please note - it looks like a lesser review here is for "Smiths," which is not this luau. Look at the website for Luau Kalamaku - advertising is very accurate.

Food was good, open bar as much as you want and the performers were excellent. Paid the extra for gold class sitting - right up front at the stage
