Luau Kalamaku with Buffet Dinner & Show

Overview
Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed “in-the-round,” offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The 45-minute main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku “child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

The was fine but nothing special for the price paid. We purchased “premier” seating though our hotel. It was held in a permanent tent structure which was mostly enclosed on 2 sides with little ventilation, so it was quite warm. Crowd was full at roughly 1000 people. Difficult to see many of the performers over heads of people in front even with so called premier seating which was elevated. They took 2 group photos of your party as you entered which you could buy for $26 for 2 8*10 prints or $45 for prints and digital copy. Note - It did not feel like a traditional luau - felt more like a banquet dinner and show with mediocre Hawaiian inspired food and performances. Gluten free choices were marked, thankfully, but minimal at best. Lots of pressure to shop the overpriced booths and only 3 bars (for 1000 people) to select one of two super sugary cocktails, beer, cheap wine, or sodas.

We really enjoyed the evening with good food at the buffet and a wonderful show. The plantation/venue was wonderful, although they could use some fans for air circulation. There were some nice little shops beforehand were you can get caramels, soap, jewelry and artwork. It was a fun even that we would recommend attending.
