This trip was the best adventure we took in Maui! We went on two other boat/snorkel excursions, but kayaking and snorkeling with John was by far more fun and interesting. Even though we have been kayaking many times, John gave tips to enhance our skills. His knowledge of marine biology, oceanography, geography, and geology of the region was informative and impressive. His jokes were also great! He made a big effort to connect with each member of the excursion and treated us like "ohana". We enjoyed learning about some of the cultural aspects too. He taught us the deeper meaning of "aloha", which the world, at large, needs to practice. We were fortunate to swim with turtles, eels, a whitetip reef shark, and several varieties of tropical fish. John dove down and brought up a pincushion starfish for our group to handle and observe. Amazing! Thanks, John, for this experience of a lifetime! Mahalo!

First off let me say that John Shappel our guide was fantastic. Clearly explained everything so we knew exactly what was going on. Took us to an incredible location that was full of turtles! Got to swim with them and get some amazing photos. Definitely the highlight of the trip!

John Hess was absolutely fantastic... hands down the best guide for the funnest event we've had on Maui. He was professional, funny, super-knowledgeable, and ensured we were all safe and had one-on-one attention from him. My wife is normally apprehensive about being on open water, let alone snorkeling in it. John consistently encouraged her to the point where she didn't want to leave at the end of the day! We will encourage everyone we know coming to Maui to not only do this tour, but to specifically ask for John Hess... he is that good!
