Mangroves and Manatees - Guided Kayak Eco Tour

Overview
Our tours are geared towards first time and new paddlers.  We go at your speed so you don't have to worry about going out and getting exhausted.  Grab a friend and come along for a unique adventure on the #1-rated Eco-Tour through the mangrove ecosystem. Choose your kayak - single or double - and glide in our shallow clear water over sponges, grass beds, and sandy patches. Looking down, you might see a small nurse shark, turtle, or stingray, or can observe dolphins and manatees. Above water, herons, pelicans, and ospreys settle on the mangroves and hunt for fish. While there are no guaranteed wildlife sightings, we always see something cool in this one-of-a-kind estuary ecosystem that starts right outside the back door of our shop.

While the tour guide was very good and safe, the trip itself was a disaster. The company, trying to make as much money as possible, overbooked the trip. There were over 30 kayakers and paddle boarders going out at the same time. Imagine the chaos at the landing. Took over 1/2 hr of our trip time to get everyone in the water. Multiple broken kayaks did not help. The trip is through a mangrove tunnel which was very cool. Problem was only 1 kayak can fit at a time through the tunnel. Our group, the second group, had to wait for over 25 minutes for the first group to go through and back. We were eaten alive by the bugs in the mangrove as we were sitting idle for so long. They should have staggered the groups so this wasn’t a problem. Instead , they took everyone who came by and added them to the trip. My advice would be to go to a different sport outlet that doesn’t overbook trips.

We're terribly sorry your trip didn't live up to the standards we are typically able to provide. Yes this is a hectic time to visit the Keys. Yes we could have turned people away. But we chose instead to try and accommodate everyone who had their other trips like fishing, diving, and snorkeling cancelled due to the bad weather. Luckily our location is protected from the winds and high seas that plagued the keys over the holidays. It is the busiest time of the year for our little island community. Typically we have other routes we can use when the weather is nice but this wasn't the case. I invite you to return when the conditions and crowds are not so crowded and experience the mangrove ecosystem. Hopefully you at least got to see the mother and baby manatee that some of your group got to experience. Also please remember when visiting the outdoors of Florida that bugs can happen anytime and anywhere. Our reservation details recommend bringing bug spray as well as sunscreen and water.
