My husband and I went to New York City for a few days and wanted to do a walking tour. Most tours don't run on Mondays so we reached out to Andrew and & Dan to see if they would be willing to show us around on a Monday since it was the only day we had open. I'm so thankful the other tours don't do Mondays or we might have missed out on this wonderful tour with Dan! This was our first trip to NYC together and we wanted to see part of NYC that we wouldn't necessarily see if we were exploring on our own. Dan took us all over the Lower East Side, Alphabet City, Chinatown and Little Italy. We loved it! Dan is a wonderful guide; we felt like we were exploring with a friend almost immediately. We loved his laid-back style, humor and the stories he told us. After having done this tour, we are eager to get back to NYC and book Dan to take us to explore more of the city. We are so thankful to him for a wonderful Monday afternoon!

We had such a great time on Andrew's guided Immigrant tour of the Lower East End and Queens. He knew so much history, and cool lesser-known facts as well, about the millions of places we walked by. From religious temples and churches, to gangster stomping grounds, to just good food, he was like yoda. If yoda was a cool New Yorker. And going into Queens was a major highlight, it's truly the new Lower East End and so many different types of nationalities are found there. A very interesting tour in terms of multiculturalism. It was just a great experience to be around the real/crazy New York, where you can take a grassroots Chinatown van into Queens and dance with a passing Middle Eastern parade. That's what New York is all about, right?

More of a "Lone Ranger", I often prefer to travel alone and to be self-guided, meaning I am not exactly a "group tour kind of person"... at least I was not, until I had the chance to take a walking tour offered by Streetwise New York. A couple of weeks ago, as I was spending a few days at Pod 39 in Midtown NYC, I got curious about the complimentary walking tours granted by the hotel twice a week, in association with Streetwise. So I decided to give it a shot, for the tour had also been effusively recommended by the concierge. Indeed, it turned out to be a wonderful experience. Those guys (Andrew and Dan, partners on Streetwise) do deliver the most pleasant and illuminating walk, for those interested in information that goes far beyond the standard. Actually, the extraordinary thing about it may reside in the very fact they also cover some ordinary, yet much curious stuff related to the visited spots. The tour I took was led by Andrew, who guided us, a party of less than 20 (in my opinion, an ideal number of people), to the Lower East Side and Chinatown. Within two hours, he gave us some enlightening piece of info about all the migratory flows that have been constantly changing the face of those neighborhoods, as well as some peculiar inputs on culture, urban art, architecture, religion, food and more. I totally "gave in" to this tour and I strongly recommend Streetwise New York to anyone willing to visit the city. I've already spread the word among my friends so now, I'm taking the time to share it on Trip Advisor, because it is worthwhile. I'd also like to share the following news link, which, I believe, is truthful to their "spirit"... enjoy! http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2011/06/andrew_silverst.php
