Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

A fantastic Manta Magic night-time snorkeling adventure with Hawaii Oceanic during our 2nd visit to the Big Island! Highly recommend - it's a Bucket List item to snorkel with the Manta Rays! Both Captain Justin and his First Mate Spencer, did a great job and took very good care of all of us, including ensuring everyone was comfortable with night-time snorkeling and that they enjoyed the adventure! The Manta Rays are just spectacular -- you get an "up close and personal" experience when they gently glide by, eating the plankton and doing barrel rolls right before your eyes! A very, very exciting experience that gives you much appreciation for nature's creatures! Hawaii Oceanic also provides complementary above and underwater photos of their trips, all available for download via their Facebook site - nice bonus as the snorkeler isn't really in a position to snap photos - you're too busy watching the Rays!! Would definitely do this again!

Last night was my first ever night snorklel. The crew, Captain Dusty along with Spencer were excellent. They were professional, informative and fun. The equipment was first class and the small group size of 6 were all given individual attention. We were the second boat to the site and once geared up in wet suits entered the water. Within the first minute a Manta ray was doing a barrel roll below us. The next forty minutes were magic. Schools of fish surrounded us and several times as many as 4 or 5 mantas were performing a graceful ballet below below us. They swam within inches of us. It was money well spent. I can't recommend them too highly

My husband and I went on the Night Manta Ray Snorkel with his parents and it was fantastic. Having only six people on the boat made the trip more enjoyable and allowed more personal attention - and was about the same per person cost as the bigger, more crowded boats. Jason and Spencer clearly put our safety first and displayed the utmost respect for the safety and protection of the animals. I chose the trip due to the small boat and the endorsement from the 'green' organization and we were not disappointed. We saw at least 5 rays and they were within inches of us. We went early so we had some daylight snorkeling before the sun set and the other - more crowded - boats arrived. Definitely worth the money - we would do it again. If we had more time, we likely would have gone the next day for the dolphin snorkel as well.
