Join retired Police Chief D'Ambra for the original Historic Candlelight Walking Tour.Take a evening stroll through the beautiful Historic Waterfront of Old Manteo. Chief began the tour in 2004. Join him and explore 450+ years of living history. His stories will entertain and fascinate you as he shares a mix of the many "firsts", tales, & history that makes Dare County, "The Land of Beginnings". His stories of The Lost Colony, Pirates, The Underground Railroad, The Wright Brothers, and our modern era will delight everyone.He even shares personal stories of the real Mayberry, USA that inspired the classic TV series "The Andy Griffith Show". He shares his relationship with the celebrities and many space heroes who have made Manteo's history unique. This tour has been featured on PBS show "NC Weekend". "The Sheffield Star" newspaper in the UK said about the tour, "The historical significance of this small island in America is truly astonishing. It's a Must See when you are in the states!"

This tour was the highlight of our vacation! We have not stopped talking about the stories the Chief shared on our tour of Manteo. Before the tour, we had walked by so much of town without a single thought. After the tour, we had a different perspective and appreciation for the land of first. Please do not mix this tour up with others. Chief D’Ambra’s passion for the history in the area shows and his personal experiences brings an insight like no other. Highly recommend! We will be back.

This is an excellent tour. If you enjoy history mixed with great story telling. The time flew buy and was an easy walk. You will get insights and information on the area that we had not heard before.

Our tour guide was wonderful, sharing all the incredible historical facts about Manteo and the OBX. This tour was one of our favorite activities we did in the OBX and we learned so much while here.
