Overview

All riders must be 36 inches or taller to participate/ride submarine.

Dive 100 feet below the surface and experience Maui’s marine treasures off beautiful Lahaina with Atlantis Submarines Maui. A special added bonus of this tour experience is seeing the spectacular West Maui Mountains while riding our shuttle boat to the Maui dive site.

Stingray, yellow tang, eel, parrotfish, bluefin trevally, and an array of other marine species are seen regularly at the dive site. See firsthand how the Carthaginian, a sunken 19th century whaling brig, has combined with Mother Nature to create a fascinating artificial reef to attract and support marine life of all sizes, shapes and colors.

A slick operation, well worth the money, $134 each it cost us. The loading of passengers onto the boat to take us to the submarine was only marred by having to have our photo taken, available for purchase at the end. (I was surprised at how many people do buy them) The submarine was roomy, and all seats had a great view. We toured a wreck (purposely sunk some years ago for just this purpose), but it looked great, and the shoals of fish, sharks, Starfish etc were fabulous. Our only downside was a young lad, maybe 8, who had no parental control and was very noisy, His parents were happy though, so I guess that was OK

This is the best way to experience a Maui reef and marine life. The sub took us down to explore a reef, a shipwreck and sea bottom at depths between 70 and 130 feet. Total trip time including shuttle to and from the submarine was about two hours. Total submerged time was 45 minutes, which was quite adequate. The Atlantis VII submarine holds 46 passengers quite comfortably and everybody has a window seat. I was lucky enough to get one of two seats at the forward end where the view includes the cockpit window dome and submarine controls. We saw lots of marine life including sharks, rays, barracuda, unicorn fish, sea urchins and many varieties of smaller fish. I highly recommend this activity and suggest a morning booking rather than afternoon. The submarine is totally battery operated and is recharged overnight to support five dives each day. Our onboard guide Brent did a fantastic job. He is a marine biologist and full of lots of very useful information.

The most memorable part of the submarine adventure was when the submarine sat on the ocean floor at 131ft down. The sunken ship was cool too!
