My wife and I did whale watching tours with Redline Rafting four days in a row from Feb. 3rd though Feb. 6th, 2025. We had done 2 trips with Redline rafting in 2024, so we were excited to go again. Every trip was great and exceeded our expectations. We saw too many whales to count and at times didn't know where to look, as there were multiple whales close to the boat. We saw whales, both adult and babies, breeching repeatedly. We saw whales repeatedly slapping their tails and dorsal fins. All of the redline people that we dealt with were very nice, fun, and knowledgeable. Hopefully we will return to Maui in 2026 and we will definitely book whale watching tours with Redline Rafting if we do.

We highly recommend this tour! Not only did we see a lot of whales, but we learned so much about their behavior. Plus, we also saw other wildlife. Even before we left the harbor, we passed a green sea turtle, and later in the trip we saw spinner dolphins. Although there was a lot of whale activity far in the distance, we had plenty to keep us busy quite close. Moms and babies are always a great treat, especially when the baby is feeling frisky and breaches repeatedly for fun. Another compelling experience was watching a “competition group.” We’d never heard of that and were amazed to see multiple male whales following one female, trying to impress her enough for her to choose him to mate with her. We also had the fantastic luck of two male whales coming within just a few feet of the boat. Another highlight was listening to the whale chatter through a hydrophone. We never imagined it would be that noisy underwater! I’d been dreaming for years to go to Maui to see the humpbacks, and this exceeded my expectations. A lot of the credit goes to the wonderful crew who were knowledgeable and personable.

What an amazing adventure! We did a 90 minute trip and spent at least 70 of those minutes around whales, the other 20 were spent getting offshore while listening to an awesome playlist while the crew told us whale facts and jokes. It was really entertaining for the adults and our kids. The whales definitely put on a show, we got a full blown “Maui mugging” with the whales swimming around and under the boat. Safety was paramount, but it was a full 90 minutes of fun.
