The guide, Addison was outstanding. Dealing with Viator was not. Try to ride in the front because in the back it’s hard to hear on the gravel roads. Would’ve loved more than one vegan snack but still grateful for that one. An herbal tea would also have been great.

Great tour up to the 13 Observatories (no entry allowed) at 4000m as well as the sunset over the whole of Hawaii. The tour guide was fantastic - explaining many things along the way, providing gloves and a warm jacket, snacks and photos. They also provided views of Jupiter, Saturn and the moon through an medium sized telescope. There is a compulsory half hour rest at the Information Center to acclimatize to the altitude before ascending to the Observatories. Bring plenty of water and/or Diamox to avoid altitude sickness.

We had the best, most positive Mauna Kea guides in the Milky Way. We learned about the various telescopes and which countries and/or universities were collaborating to operate them. With a brilliant full moon, it was too bright to appreciate the millions of stars we were hoping to see, but the guides still showed us wonderful constellations. Loved seeing Saturn and Jupiter in their amazing telescope. I’ll just have to go again! Thank you Lane!
