Mauna Kea Summit

One of the best places to see the sunset and stargazing and it's also the highest mountain on earth. Comfortable 4X4 passenger van as transportation.Jackets and gloves provided to keep you warm. Experienced tour guide to talk about our history and show you our amazing night with a laser pointer. Get close to the stars with our professional Celestron telescope and get a nice photo with our DSLR camera.

We met Derek at our allotted pick up and he drove us to meet up with Nate who took us up to Mauna Kea. Derek was excellent and imparted so much information about the island and its history the drive to our rendezvous flew past. We then meet up with Nate, who took us to the summit via the visitor centre, Nate also imparted a wealth of knowledge on the journey up and during the experience itself. Despite both Derek and Nate setting our expectations the experience surpassed all our expectations, from the observatories to the sunset and onwards to the star viewing. The star viewing, commentary, telescope viewing and the photos taken of us (when I look at our photos you would think it was in a studio with backdrop) were great Nate kept checking on us to ensure we did not feel the affects of the "rarefied air" We went back down to meet Derek who take us back to our pick up point and made sure everyone had a ride home before he left. An unmissable experience with excellent co hosts, I thoroughly recommend if you have the opportunity.
