This was my favorite attraction in key west. Our family is 2 parents, 3 kids (15, 11, 9). I didn’t know the story of the decades long search for the Atocha and it’s treasure. My kids did not want to use the audio head sets. So don’t feel the need to spend additional money on those. The video at the very beginning was enough to peak their interest in the rest of the museum to read the information and look at the displays. My husband liked it but was probably done in 20 minutes, kids done in about 30 minutes and I took my time and spent more like 40 minutes in the exhibits. The gift shop is great. The museum also offers a behind the scenes tour at certain times. If I have the chance to go back I will do that. If you like archeology, history, ship wrecks, treasure, large amounts of money, being rich, thinking about being rich, then this museum is for you. If your time is limited in key west put this at the top of your list.

I find this museum to be fascinating. I remember when the Atocha was found. My favorite piece is the emerald cross. This was my second trip - first trip for the rest of my family. The man at the counter was helpful and recommended some movies. P.S. Cold bottled water was only $1 per bottle!

We thought there would be much more treasure to look at. It seemed that they had extra space so they added an exhibit on the Cuban missile crisis. At least it was cool inside.
