Overview

Get the complete Memphis experience on this all-inclusive city tour. It’s a part history tour, part attraction hopping, part food tour that will introduce you to everything that makes Memphis special. You’ll visit World Famous Beale Street (the Home of the Blues); the Lorraine Motel, to see the balcony where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated; the Rock 'n' Soul Museum or Edge Motor Museum (if option selected); Lansky Brothers Clothing Store, clothier to Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and B.B. King (and still one of the most stylish places to shop!); and get a barbecue tasting at one of the best barbecue joints in the city!

Along the way, we'll show you our favorite Memphis sights, including the Mississippi River, Victorian Village, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, old Cotton Row, and Court Square, the lovely and historic heart of 19th century Memphis.

Within a few blocks there are four different parking garages, and several open-air parking lots. The closest garage to our location (just two blocks away) is at 149 Peabody Place between Second Street and BB King Blvd., next to the Hampton Inn. You can try your luck with on-street metered parking, too, on Second Street just south of Beale; on Beale between Front and Second; or along Peabody Place from Front to Fourth Street.

Larry was an informative and humorous tour guide! The tour was about 1 hour long, then we stopped at Central BBQ for a small lunch of about 30 minutes, which counts in your tour time. After the tour and snack, we were dropped off at the Rock and Soul Museum, which we had paid for in advance. Just be aware that you might pay a small increase in admission fees for the Edge Motor Museum or the Rock and Soul Museum over what their individual museum admission fees are, but the convenience is that you are driven there. We were a little surprised that the Discovery tour didn't address such iconic sites as the Orpheum Theater, The Gibson Guitar Factory, Sun Studios, The Cotton Museum, and the Peabody Hotel. (The guide commented that we weren't going to stop at the Peabody to watch the duck march because it wouldn't have been worth the time to stop.) We did see the Victorian neighborhood, Elvis's high school home and other stops which were enhanced by the guide's narration. Overall, we enjoyed the tour because the guide gave us information quickly and concisely that we wouldn't have easily gotten ourselves without research.
