Overview
A must-see sight while in port in Juneau is the Mendenhall Glacier and on this exciting 3.5-hour white-water rafting tour, you'll get up close to this impressive natural wonder! Sit back and have fun as your guide paddles you through Class II and III rapids at the foot of the glacier. While you float along the 6-mile (9.6-km) route, take in the amazing sights of the glacier, the sheer mountains and the abundant wildlife. No rafting experience is required and this tour is suitable for the whole family. Want to be more active and involved? We had a perfect day! Weather was sunny and nice, rapids were good for first timers, guide was knowledgeable and did a great job moving us along with so many variables against us. The bad part of entire trip was the too small waders with a hole in them.

Sorry about the waders, glad it didn't spoil your trip! Dale E Smith Director of Sales & Marketing

Efficient at getting you out on the lake, but thereā€™s minimal view of the glacier from a distance. Basically, it rains and is cold 85% of the time out there and other Alaskan trips iā€™ve been on provide full rain gear and gloves and hat. They provide rain bib and boots, but nothing else. Our guide Gabe was fun, engaging and knowledgeable. However thereā€™s not as much to see, just the fun of floating down the river. Minimal wildlife sightings. You end under a giant tarp with ritz crackers, cheese cubes and a mild pink cream cheese. Then they try to sell you a picture and you herded back to the bus. Due to rain and fog, many of the helicopter tours get canceled, this tour is the only one they never cancel.

Sorry, you had a bad experience. Yes, Juneau is in a temperate rainforest so we have cool temps and rain quite a bit. Our rain gear jackets do have hoods, that is why we do not offer hats also. The mild pink cream cheese you referred to is smoked salmon dip. The salmon in it is what gives it its pink color. I wish we could guarantee wildlife sightings on all tours, but then they probably would not be wild, they would be in a zoo. I know how disappointing it is not to see wildlife, I would be bummed out too. Yes, Heli tours get canceled more often than any other tour. Our river float tour only cancels when there is a lack of runoff in the rivers in early spring or during floods. We had to cancel it a few days this year due to flooding. Once for a glacial dam break in suicide basin and another due to heavy rains and a few days early this spring due to low water conditions. I know it can feel a bit like you are being herded when you are with a group. Our guides are there for the safety of our guests and to make sure nobody is left behind. Sorry, again you had a bad experience. Dale E Smith Director of Sales & Marketing

The truth is: no matter where you look in Alaska there is so much to see, here a bear, there an eagle, gorgeous natural wonders. You get to see the blue glacier ice while you float by it in a distance before you enter a river stream. Very nice guides. Make sure you leave them a tip, they work hard.
