A must-see sight while in port in Juneau is the Mendenhall Glacier and on this exciting 3.5-hour white-water rafting tour, you'll get up close to this impressive natural wonder! Sit back and have fun as your guide paddles you through Class II and III rapids at the foot of the glacier. While you float along the 6-mile (9.6-km) route, take in the amazing sights of the glacier, the sheer mountains and the abundant wildlife. No rafting experience is required and this tour is suitable for the whole family. Want to be more active and involved? Beautiful Tour! Alex, our guide, was very professional, knew the river very well, and obviously enjoyed his job! We were pleased to find it was not a true whitewater rafting type tour with heavy rapids. It was more of a float tour. All water gear was provided. Shoes and items were collected prior to departing on the tour and ready for us at the end of the tour.

Sure you see the glacier from a way bigger distance than preceived. Sure you canoe, but nothing near as high a rapid class as described. Still kinda cool and worth it, but not so amazing. A bit bummed in reflection.

Our Canoe tour doesn't go on rapids at all, it is on Mendenhall Lake and due to safety regulations, we are not allowed to get within a distance of 100 yards of the face of the glacier. If you were on our float tour, the mouth of the river is a good distance from the glacier and it is not marketed that it is close to the glacier. It is also marketed as class 1 or 2 rapids. The quickness of the river depends on rain and glacial melt, we had to close our raft tour yesterday and this morning due to a glacial outburst and the river is class 5 at flood stage. I am not certain which trip you were disappointed in, but I hope I was able to explain both possibilities for you. I am sorry your expectations were not met. My husband, 2 teenage kids, and I took this trip a couple weeks ago. It was the first time rafting for all of us, and the very mild rapids were perfect for beginners. Our guide, Cade, was fun and informative. We didn't see any wildlife, but the scenery was gorgeous. It was a great way to see and "do" Alaska.
