My wife and I, 66 years of age, did the Mendenhall Glacier Ice Adventure Tour on May 22, 2022. Liquid Alaska Tours was the tour company. We and five other people met at the base of the Mount Roberts Tramway and took a 1/2 hour ride in a van to Mendenhall Lake. It was a gorgeous sunny day with temperatures in the mid 60s. We were outfitted with rain gear, tall boots and other gear needed to paddle a canoe and walk on a glacier. The seven of us, along with guides Bryce and Matt, launched the canoe and started paddling across the lake toward Mendenhall Glacier. On the way to the glacier, we paddled into the wind. The paddling was not too strenuous, as Matt allowed us several breaks on the trip across the lake. When we rounded a point, the wind and waves increased but not enough to prevent us from reaching the glacier. We beached the canoe and walked a few hundred feet to the edge of the glacier. We srapped crampons on the bottom of our boots and walked on the glacier. What a wonderful experience. Pools of blue water. Little streams of blue water. Deep crevaces. The crampons and trekking pole made the walk on the ice quite manageable and safe. This up close and personal view of a glacier makes this a must do tour. The paddling with the wind at our back made the return trip across the lake less strenuous. Bryce and Matt were wonderful guides. Their instructions and stories kept us entertained throughout the trip. I would be remiss if I didn't say you do have to be in decent physical condition to go on this tour. You do paddle about 2 hours and walking up and down the glacier can be tricky at times.

Wow, what an awesome review. I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed your day with Matt and Bryce. Experiencing a glacier is definitely an experience hard to forget. Our section of the Mendenhall goes through constant changes, with different features coming and going. It sounds like your crew scored some beautiful features that day! Those blue pools are incredible! Thank you again for the great review!
