What an amazing thing to do in Juneau! We did this while in port from a cruise ship. They didn't offer it, but we found it online and knew we had to do it. The big draw was for the ice caves because the photos look awesome. However, the day we were there they said there weren't any safe ice caves to explore. Major bummer from the outset. So it's a good thing that everything else was terrific. Our guides were Matt and Casey and they're super friendly and encouraging. My wife and I joined in with 8 others total. The large canoe was great and we all worked well paddling out. The day was gorgeous, the lake was so calm, and hiking on a glacier is something I don't think I'll get to do again. So fun!

We took did the tour with Liquid Alaska in mid-June where you canoe out to the Mendenhall Glacier and then walk around on the glacier. Andrew was our guide. He was amazing. Fun and energetic from the start, he filled us in on interesting local information as we drove to the canoe put in point. He gave us all the gear we needed - water proof boots, rain pants and jacket. The canoe trip was not difficult. We were able to stop and take some pics along the way. As we canoed, Andrew continued to share interesting info about the geography, weather and glacier. Once we got on the glacier, Andrew made sure we were safe at all times. We hiked all around. The views were amazing. Andrew provided snacks and water. After we canoed back, Andrew had hot drinks for us- coffee and hot cocoa. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. It was our family's favorite while in Juneau (my husband and me, + 12 and 14 yr olds).

Neat experience. Off the beaten path and away from the crowds! Active adventure. The group gets into a giant canoe and rows for about an hour to get to the glacier. Once you get to the glacier you put on crampons and hike around the glacier with the guides. Then it's back into the canoe and row back to base. Did not get to hike into any glacier tubes (unsafe) but I figured we wouldn't. Still a great experience!
