Overview

Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE hiking on a glacier.

What To Expect

Liquid Alaska Tours

Liquid Alaska Tours pick up guests at the cruise ship docks and their experience starts right there. This is a 4 hour all inclusive tour, including 2 hours paddling around the Mendenhall Lake to see the Mendenhall Glacier and experience the wild of Alaska in the Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the United States.

Mendenhall Glacier

Guests will get up close and personal with the Mendenhall Glacier as they canoe up to the face of the glacier and experience it from a canoe on Mendenhall Lake.

Tongass National Forest

Our entire tour takes place in Tongass National Forest. We bring guests out to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to the West Side Glacier Parking area. This is where our tour gears up, goes over safety and paddling instructions and starts our paddle to the Mendenhall Glacier- all located in the Tongass National Forest.

Ok, this was a GREAT excursion from our cruise. Our guide was safe, knowledgeable, and fun! We got very close to the glacier and nugget falls! U definitely rowed, got great photos too. We just happened to have awesome weather. Kevin was our guide. It was peaceful and being on the canoe allowed u to really take in the view and experience. I’m glad we did the canoe over the kayak. Highly recommend!!

Canoeing the Mendenhall Lake absolutely allows you to experience the area in a completely different way! Sitting just in front of Nugget Falls can be just as mesmerizing as the glacier itself! Thank you for coming out on the water with us!

Absolutely amazing! Words cannot describe the awesomeness that was this tour. Close up, once in a lifetime views of. Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget falls. Kevin, our guide went above and beyond to make us feel Comfortable and safe. He was incredibly knowledgeable, kind and funny. Highly recommend this for anyone who wants to kick their vacation up a notch!

It was an aw inspiring moment to round the point in the lake and see the glacier on front of us. Our guide, Mike, did a wonderful job insuring that everyone was happy and truly had our safety in mind every step of the way! Guiding ten strangers to work together as a team when paddling can often be like herding cats and he did his best to keep everyone in line. Not an easy job! I recommend being in good enough shape to paddle for two hours for the benefit of the group!
